Tutoring FAQ
During the fall and spring semesters, tutoring is open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, and 3 p.m.-8 p.m. on Sunday.
All appointments must be scheduled online via Navigate. If scheduling a group appointment, please ensure that the other member is enrolled in the same section of the class and enter their VCU email in the appointment comment box.
All appointments must be scheduled at least 48 business hours in advance.
Cancel your appointment via Navigate at least 24 hours in advance of your appointment. If you do not cancel the appointment within that 24-hour period, the appointment will be considered a no-show. After the third no-show, your individual tutoring services will be suspended for the remainder of the semester until you meet with CLC professional staff.
Students can have two appointments per week. Additional appointments may be considered upon students meeting with an academic coach. Drop-In Tutoring is unlimited.
Yes, this is permitted but highly discouraged as our tutors and tutees have found it difficult to maintain a productive appointment after two hours. You may be asked to change the arrangement/timing of your appointments if you book two appointments in a row.
After your first appointment with a tutor, you will be able to make recurring appointments. Inform your tutor that you would like to make recurring appointments, and the tutor will make those appointments on your behalf.
Yes, students are encouraged to use all of the services offered by the CLC. Appointment tutoring is best for when students desire individualized attention. Drop-in tutoring is best for when students have quick questions or prefer a less structured tutoring environment.
