Tutoring

The Campus Learning Center at Virginia Commonwealth University offers appointment, drop-in and group tutoring in undergraduate courses across the disciplines.

Our tutors are all current students who have successfully completed all the courses they tutor. Additionally, tutors participate in a comprehensive training program to learn how to strategically assist the students they work with. Tutoring services focus on helping students learn skills and strategies they can utilize in their individual study.

Appointment tutoring

Appointments provide the widest variety of subject and discipline options.

When making your appointment you will have the option to select online or in-person. Once this selection is made it cannot be modified without changing the entire appointment. Please remember that for in person appointments, masks are required and distancing protocols will be followed.

  • Students can have individual, one-hour sessions with a peer tutor.
  • Students can schedule appointment tutoring one hour per week, per subject, for up to two subjects. If a student requests assistance beyond two appointments per week, a meeting with an academic coach is required.
  • Appointments must be made at least two days in advance.
  • Recurring appointments are available after the first session.
  • Tutors will share Zoom links with students after the appointment is made.

Drop-in tutoring

Final exam drop-in tutoring schedule

Looking for help without an appointment? Check out the options with our Drop-In tutoring Schedule. Utilize Drop-In Tutoring as often as you'd like by visiting Hibbs Hall, room 107.

Drop-in tutoring is designed for individuals who are seeking support without an appointment. This service is available in addition to the individual sessions for students. Please note: there may be other students in drop-in tutoring when you visit, and tutors may be supporting multiple students at once.

Group tutoring

Groups of two to three students can schedule one-hour sessions with a peer tutor. You may not bring a classmate to an individual tutoring appointment in lieu of scheduling a group appointment.

  • Students must be in the same section of the course.
  • Students can schedule group tutoring one hour per week, per subject, for up to two subjects.
  • Each student in the group must make their appointment in Navigate by selecting the same time, location and tutor. The system will automatically cap the number of students and verify the sections.
  • All students must agree to scheduling the appointment.
  • Recurring appointments are available after the first session.

Foreign language conversation groups

The Campus Learning Center hosts weekly conversation groups in foreign languages. Our offerings change each semester and often include a variety of languages. Past offerings for these groups include Spanish, French, Russian, Italian and Arabic. Participants must be current VCU students.

The conversation groups are open to all skill levels. Students do not need to be enrolled in a foreign language course to attend.

For more information, contact the Campus Learning Center at (804) 827-8108.

Please consult the schedule for session locations and times.
